A special highlight for the 5GoIng team at THI was our "outdoor field experiment" last week, where we were able to run the scenario previously tested in the lab under real conditions. For this purpose, we took our test vehicle to the CARISSMA outdoor area of THI.
Since road safety is one of the three technical core aspects in the 5GoIng project, the goal of the experiment was to show that it is possible to avoid accidents and thus protect vulnerable road users (VRUs) in particular by using a collision detection algorithm, various sensors and V2X (Vehicle to X) communication.
During the test scenario, a VRU was embodied using a dummy that was synchronized with the vehicle. After the successful execution of the "field experiment", we will incorporate the research and measurement results into our work and thus get closer to our vision of safe and comfortable autonomous traffic, step by step.
