The KONVENS (Conference on Natural Language Processing) 2023 took place from September 18 to 22, 2023 at the Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI). In addition to the technical program, the conference offered a lively exchange between academic researchers and industry experts as well as workshops, tutorials, joint tasks and networking events.
For the first time, an audio series reports on the highlights of the 18th conference. Panos Pagonis, research associate at THI, talks to participants about keynote speakers and the organization on site and at the chair. Insights into individual research topics are offered and the experts talk about what is currently being researched and discussed in the field of NLP (Natural Language Processing).
- Episode 1: The first episode covers the impressions of the first day of the conference in Ingolstadt. The interview features Silvan Wehrli and Robert Geislinger, who talk about their research challenges and topics and the current issues facing the community.
- Episode 2: Second day of the conference: Steffen Grünewald from Bosch, who was one of this year's sponsors, talks about the industry and what is happening there. The second interview is with one of the local organizers, Steffen Freisinger, who talks more about the organizational part of the conference and his NLP research.
- Episode 3: This episode is about the third and fourth day of the conference. Marc Schulder explains the topic he covered in his keynote speech on sign language. Hassane Kissane talks about phrasal verbs and linguistics.
- Episode 4: On the last day, Prof. Dr. Hinrich Schütze explains his work on GLOT500: Scaling Multilingual Corpora and Language Models to 500 Languages and reviews his tutorial Learning from task instruction. The audio series ends with Prof. Dr. Annemarie Friedrich. She introduces the organization of the conference and the importance of the KONVENS conference.
