Artificial intelligence is a rapidly growing scientific discipline. Companies and organisations in all sectors have long since recognised the importance and potential of artificial intelligence. There is a huge demand for qualified professionals who can actively shape the digital future through their expertise in the field.
The degree programme prepares you for the professional and technical requirements for a job in this field. You will acquire in-depth knowledge by dealing with the latest methods of artificial intelligence, e.g. deep learning in the important fields of computer vision as well as language and text understanding. An additional goal of the study programme is the creation of a theoretical-scientific basis for the possibility of a subsequent doctorate or work in the scientific field. The AI research facilities affiliated with THI offer you an ideal opportunity for this.

The Master's degree program in Artificial Intelligence builds on a Bachelor's degree in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science or a related field. It deepens scientific knowledge and skills with regard to the development and design of the latest methods and concepts of artificial intelligence. In addition to the design, implementation and application of artificial intelligence solutions and deep learning algorithms, especially in the context of language and images, efficient data management concepts and aspects of AI security are also covered. It also sharpens your awareness of the influence of artificial intelligence on society and the economy and the changes it brings. You can take modules from the related degree programs Business Information Systems Engineering and Cloud Applications and Security Engineering as compulsory elective modules. This gives you the opportunity to develop your skills in other highly topical and sought-after subject areas. Further options are available with regard to a project and seminar. The degree program enables you to work independently in the field of development and application of artificial intelligence and prepares you for a career in this field in industry or science (e.g. doctorate).

Quick Info
Admission and application
Applying for a degree course
The programme starts in the winter semester (October 1st).
Application period
Applications for this degree may be submitted through the online application system from May 2 to August 31 or Nov. 15 to Feb. 15 each year. Please find all relevant info on application on our Master application from abroad-pages.
Requirements
A Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline with either 210 ECTS credit points is required. Plese see the Statutes of ths course for details
The programme is held in German, so a high level of German proficiency, usually at least level B2, is required.
Dubious Application Agencies
Currently, THI is receiving an increasing amount of information regarding fraudulent activities in connection with student applications to THI. Therefore, it is important for you to know the following:
THI does not work with agencies. Please apply directly to THI via the Primuss application portal.
THI never asks for money via agencies for application purposes.
THI only sends emails from @thi.de.
THI never asks for money before you receive your admission letter. If you need a VPD from uni-assist, you will have to pay a processing fee to uni-assist. However, uni-assist only checks certain documents and does not grant admission to THI.
The application process is conducted in the THI Primuss portal. Only there will you be able to access your application progress.
Job profiles
Graduates can work in any company or industry in which artificial intelligence methods and techniques are developed and used. In addition to working as a developer, consulting tasks are also conceivable. The Master's also qualifies for a possible career in the scientific field with an optional doctorate.
FAQs
What prerequisites should I have for this degree program?
The Master's program in Artificial Intelligence deepens the Bachelor's program in Artificial Intelligence offered at THI. It thus requires solid knowledge in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning. These may have been acquired either through relevant study or provable practical experience.
Required prerequisites are:
Degree in a Bachelor's program in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Computational Linguistics or an equivalent Bachelor's program.
German language skills at a B2 level
Solid prior knowledge in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning. These will be inquired about via an aptitude test.
What is special about this Master's program?
The master's program is closely linked to the AI research institute AININ here at THI. The compulsory lectures, for example, are held by the THI's AI research professors, who thus also bring current research topics into the courses. There is also the possibility to start directly as a research assistant in an AI research group here at the THI after a successful master's degree.
Another special feature is the proportion of selectable modules. Here, you will be able to take modules from the "neighboring" master's programs Business Information Systems Engineering and Cloud Applications and Security Engineering. This allows you to combine the contents of the Master's programs and to integrate competencies in one of the core topics of the other programs into your Master's program. However, the focus of your studies will naturally remain on the topics of artificial intelligence.
What is the aptitude test?
The suitability procedure is explained in detail in Art. 4 of the Study and Examination Regulations (SPO): if you meet the application requirements (according to Art. 3) and submit your complete application (1), this application will be reviewed by two professors (2) based on the criteria and expertise defined in (3). Thus, the eligibility process will be based on your application - not on an examination, interview or other performance.
I don't have all the preliminary knowledge that is asked for in the suitability procedure. Can I still apply?
Yes. You do not have to demonstrate knowledge in all of the areas asked. If you have little or no knowledge and experience in one or the other area, this is not a problem.
Are some modules also offered in English?
Yes, some modules are held in English. This is the case, for example, for the module "Social Implications of Artificial Intelligence". Starting in the summer semester of 2025, it is planned to switch the entire course of study completely to English.
A module handbook describes the modules belonging to a degree programme. It contains information on admission requirements, learning content and objectives, ECTS points, duration, workload, literature, types of examinations, lecturers and module leaders of the modules and courses of the respective degree programme.
Study and examination regulations (SPO) deal with judicial matters concerning your study course. For more information please turn to the pages of the legal department for statutes of this course.
