New course of study: "Computational Life Sciences"

Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI) will start the German-language bachelor's programme "Computational Life Sciences" (B.Sc.) in the winter semester 2020/21 as one of the first programmes in the new field of study "Health/Life Sciences".

The Computational Life Sciences programme provides interdisciplinary specialist skills from the fields of computer science, health and life sciences. Students learn, among other things, to acquire, visualise and analyse medical data, to simulate biological processes of the human body or to recognise patterns from large, unstructured health data using artificial intelligence. This enables them to develop healthcare and life science apps, but also IT systems for the healthcare sector.

The seven-semester bachelor's course is complemented by lectures, exercises, practical training and practical phases. It also includes entrepreneurship knowledge as the basis for start-up companies. Graduates will find professional opportunities as IT specialists, data scientists or software developers in medicine, diagnostics, pharmaceutics, human biology, but also in nutrition, agricultural or material sciences.

The course is part of the new field of study "Health/Life Sciences", which will be gradually established across all faculties. In 2030, it is envisaged that around 1,250 students will be enrolled in this field of study - specifically in five bachelor's courses followed by master's courses. Close cooperation with the Ingolstadt Hospital is planned for this study course.

Applications for the new course of studies can be submitted until 20 August.
