Between August and October, three doctoral students of the faculty spent four weeks at one of our partner universities for a research stay.
Dominik Rößle visited the Turku University of Applied Sciences in Turku, Finland. In the research group of Jarkko Paavola, he was able to conduct research on the fusion of camera images as well as a LiDAR for distance estimation with the help of neural networks, of surrounding objects, especially in a maritime context.
Jakob Löw spent his research stay at the Universidad de Sao Paulo (USP) in Brazil. On site at the USP campus in Butantã, he worked together with scientists on concepts for ecological and safe mobility, in particular on algorithms and simulations for platooning, the cooperative convoy driving of several vehicles. He also visited the Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica in São José dos Campos (ITA), another partner institution of THI.
Wu Di recently returned from China, where she worked at the Southern China University of Technology (SCUT) in the laboratory of Prof. Cai Yi. At the partner university, Wu Di learned more about Artificial Intelligence topics such as Knowledge Graph, Multi-modality tasks, Natural Language Reasoning and Question Answering. She also presented her work at THI, especially the THISuccessAI project she is working on at THI.
All three universities are partners in the AI@motion International project, which was carried out in the DAAD's HAW.International 2021-22 funding line. On the one hand, the research stays served to further the doctoral students' professional training and to gain international experience. They also strengthened the cooperation with the partner universities and pointed the way for further research cooperation in the future.
