As part of the DAAD-funded enGlobe project, a group of four UXD and AI students from THI's Faculty of Computer Science, together with Prof. Wolf-Dieter Tiedemann, traveled to Silicon Valley for a week in early March to begin the "Rapid HMI Design and Testing" project with four students from San Jose State University and Prof. Jon Pearce. This project is being conducted in cooperation with the Stanford Research Institute (SRI) and will continue through June with the goal of researching and developing an intelligent user interface (HMI) designed to increase the user's situational awareness and quickly adapt to unusual, stressful situations. One such use case is an HMI for helicopter pilots who must monitor a squadron of escort drones. Depending on the mission and the time, different information is important, while other, unimportant information must be pushed into the background so as not to further increase the pilots' stress level. The international project team is collaborating online during the summer semester starting this week and will meet again at THI in early June for the project conclusion.
