Henri Bredt, a 6th semester User Experience Design student, was one of 375 students worldwide to win Apple's Swift Student Challenge Award this year. Having already been one of the winners in 2021 and 2022, this year he was able to fly to the USA for the first time in person to Apple's Word Wide Developers Conference in California and visit the headquarters in Apple Park.
The highlight there: He got to meet the developer community, was able to visit Apple Park with its impressive architecture and landscaping, and then pitched his app project to Apple's CEO Tim Cook.
Henri Bredt's app allows users to learn the basics of reading music and playing the piano in a short, interactive course. The app's design is retro in style, reminiscent of the look and feel of a real, old electric piano. Notably, the app helps users learn by displaying their playing progress on the sheet music and highlighting the next key on the keyboard if they are unsure.
Henri Bredt taught himself the Swift programming language, which is used to develop for Apple platforms, while studying. He likes the clear syntax and some exciting language features. Last but not least, this knowledge allowed him to participate in the Swift Student Challenge.
After completing his studies, Henri Bredt can imagine continuing to work in the app industry.
