Ömer Dönmez discovered his passion for programming at school. After completing his Bachelor's degree in Flight and Vehicle Informatics at THI, Ömer decided to enrol on our Master's degree programme in Automated Driving and Vehicle Safety, which he completed in 2022. He has now received the BestMasters award from Springer Verlag for his master's thesis "Development of an Automated Valet Parking System (AVPS), which he wrote as part of the ANTON research project" with Prof. Dr Ondřej Vaculín at CARISSMA ISAFE (Institute of Safety in Future Mobility). In his master's thesis, Mr Dönmez developed a cost-efficient system architecture of an AVPS, which was validated in the simulation and thus discovered his passion for research.
As Ömer Dönmez enjoys research and pre-development immensely and is very interested in developing new concepts, he decided to remain loyal to THI. He has been a research assistant at CARISSMA ISAFE since June 2022. In this role, he is now generally involved in the development and safeguarding of automated and connected driving functions. Specifically in the area of passive safety, Mr Dönmez focuses on the development of different methods and tools for evaluating new restraint systems.
Ömer Dönmez would like to delve even deeper into the topic of automated parking systems centred around AVPS and thus increase the accessibility and attractiveness of such systems. It is important not to neglect the public, because society has a huge influence on the attractiveness of these systems through its acceptance. Mr Dönmez likes the variety of his tasks and the proximity to current topics in the field of automated driving. He greatly appreciates the fact that he is largely free to organise his tasks as he sees fit and that his own interests are the top priority. He finds the atmosphere and collegial behaviour at THI very pleasant and appreciates it very much. He was quickly given responsibility here, for which he is very grateful. Last but not least, he enjoys the exchange with motivated students and the freedom to teach, to carry out projects with students and thus to share his experiences with them, but also to always learn something new himself through the exchange.
