Welding - the permanent joining of components by applying heat and/or pressure, with or without filler materials - is indispensable in modern production technology. The welding processes differ according to their purpose (build-up and joint welding), their energy input and the types of process for which welding consumables are usually required. The number of different welding processes is correspondingly diverse. The most important of these are available in the welding technology laboratory. Two casting plants supplement the laboratory with regard to further production processes.
Goals and idea
The laboratory serves to train students in the basics of welding technology. All common welding processes are demonstrated and the students can put the theoretical knowledge into practice on the equipment. The cooperation with the materials laboratory allows the examination of welding results. This also results in challenging topics for Master and Bachelor theses.
