The importance of future competence is increasingly growing due to current changes in economy, technology and society. Therefore the THI plans to establish a Bavarian Foresight Institute which focuses on technology-oriented future research as well as the associated economic and social interdependencies. This is intended to create synergies with the THI's technology-oriented research institutes, particularly in the areas of artificial intelligence, sustainability and mobility.
The institute creates a close interaction between teaching and research. Research focuses on foresight methods, technology trend analysis, opportunity spaces through technologies, new technologies (AI, biotechnology, etc.), technology business model development, technology transformation, future capabilities and competencies, technology culture, business ethics, societal resilience, and the interplay of technological and cultural change. The focus of teaching is the Master's programme "Global Foresight and Technology Management" for German and international students, which is taught in English and will be organized every summer and winter semester. The Master's programme starts in the winter semester 2021/22.
