Freemover
Missed the application deadline? Haven't found a suitable partner university? Then you can still complete a freemover stay abroad. This is a self-organized stay abroad, i.e. you take care of the selection of the university, the application and everything else yourself. You are thus moving outside the exchange programs of THI.
If you are planning a freemover stay, please enroll in our Moodle course in advance.
Advantages and disadvantages
Advantages
- You are flexible in your choice of a university abroad
- A stay abroad can also take place at shorter notice
Disadvantages
- Tuition fees: Unlike with THI's exchange programmes, you must pay tuition fees in full yourself. You are not entitled to exemptions and discounts that exist with THI's partner universities. Fees can range from a few hundred to a few thousand euros. You must inquire about the exact costs yourself with the universities.
- Funding opportunities: The choice of funding opportunities is very limited, Erasmus funding is not available.
- Organization: You are responsible for finding out about and complying with the application procedure, all necessary deadlines and documents. The International Office cannot assist you with this.
Recognition of courses
All courses from a freemover stay abroad can be recognised at THI, as long as a Learning Agreement has been prepared in advance. A template for a Learning Agreement can be found on Moodle. You must clarify the exact course selection with your programme director/department coordinator. Changes during the stay abroad are possible after prior consultation. Courses will only be credited after the stay abroad if the Learning Agreement has been signed in full.
Funding opportunities
- You can find information about funding opportunities under Funding & Scholarships.
- You also have the possibility to apply for an international BAföG.
Erasmus funding is unfortunately not available.
