The visitors to the network meeting of the "Jugend forscht" foundation followed the presentations by Dr. Christian Lösel and Thomas Dorsch with great interest. In his presentation, Dr. Lösel discussed AImotion Bavaria: "At the THI, with the AImotion Bavaria Institute and the CARISSMA Research and Test Center, the mobility concepts of the future are being developed in close cooperation with the city of Ingolstadt - especially in the areas of autonomous driving and unmanned flight," explained Dr. Lösel. AI plays an essential role in this, he added.
The participants were able to gain a visual impression of the test vehicles, the sensors, and the laboratory with Thomas Dorsch, who then guided the group through the CARISSMA workshop and addressed current research questions and projects. CARISSMA is the leading scientific center for vehicle safety in Germany. The 123-meter-long research building was commissioned in 2016 and houses a total of ten test facilities on more than 4,000 square meters of floor space, including an indoor test facility for crash tests and driving trials, a drop tower, and a laboratory for Car2X communication. "The facility aims to contribute to increasing road safety through applied research," says Dorsch. "To this end, CARISSMA is working with automotive manufacturers, scientists, and research institutions from around the world."
