Project partners meet for a boot camp

The "First Mile" test field in Ingolstadt is a unique environment for testing automated driving vehicles on a public road, which is being built in collaboration with the Fraunhofer Application Centre Ingolstadt, the city of Ingolstadt, industrial partners, and researchers. The test field is equipped with infrastructure-side sensors on masts, V2X communication units, and, last but not least, a backend control system to link all relevant information and run applications on it, including a data storage server.

The use cases to be validated at the boot camp range from passive traffic monitoring and the provision of vehicle environment and position information to the infrastructure to informing vehicles about their surroundings using V2X communication on a local and global level. Bootcamp participants with different levels of expertise work and discuss together in the control room of the "First Mile" test field in Golstadt to evaluate scenarios and find the best solutions to improve the quality and efficiency of the test field.

The test field is being set up by the IN2lab and 5GoIng projects. The IN2Lab project receives funding from the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy (StMWi) and is developing a system to safeguard automated driving functions. The 5GoIng project is funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport Affairs (BMDV) and is creating an open development and demonstration platform for 5G applications focussing on "connected mobility".
