In January 2016 the Bavarian Academic Forum (BayWISS) was founded as a cooperation platform for all Bavarian universities and universities of applied sciences. The objective is an in-depth institutionalised cooperation for universities and universities of applied sciences, particularly in the area of doctorates.
The consortial doctorate was created to develop the cooperative doctorate. The doctoral candidates are jointly supervised by researchers of an university and an university of applied sciences. There are eleven specific lectures: Mobility & Transport, Energy, Digitisation, Resources and Raw Material Efficiency, Social Change, Health, Economics, Communication & Media, Infrastructure, Construction and Urbanization, Production Technology and Life Sciences and Green Technologies. Each lecture is led on equal terms by at least one of the Bavarian universities and one of the Bavarian universities of applied science.
