This year, our ELS team event took place in the Altmühltal adventure park. The somewhat wet autumn weather didn't deter us from driving to Beilngries highly motivated. Two trainers from the climbing park welcomed us and explained what we could expect. It quickly became clear that we could only complete the tasks as a team. Initial reservations were quickly overcome. After a few minutes, we didn't even notice the cold weather.
The first task required skill, brains, balance and, of course, above all, teamwork. Four slacklines were stretched from tree to tree. Our task was for the whole group to cross the slacklines without falling off, as we had to imagine a swamp to the left and right of the slacklines. What was unimaginable for us at first worked out and we all reached the end of the slackline course with a few small falls in between.
We were split into smaller groups for the next 2 tasks. Even the name of the next task sounded very adventurous. Three team members had to climb up the so-called “ladder to heaven” together, while three other team members were responsible for belaying from the ground. This task proved to be very tricky as the steps were different distances apart. However, using a variety of techniques, all the teams that dared to climb the ladder to the top managed to do so. In another task, one team member had to walk blindly across a suspension bridge that was missing some planks. The other team members were responsible for belaying and shouting commands.
Finally, the whole group was called upon once again. Wooden beams attached to ropes had to be placed in the correct position so that a volunteer could walk blindly across this footbridge.
Dirty but proud and happy, we had mastered all the tasks as a team after three hours. We ended the evening with a relaxed dinner together.
We are looking forward to next year and are excited to see what team event awaits us then.
