In view of global climate change and the increasing scarcity of resources, the secure and efficient supply of energy with renewable energy and the development of viable sustainability structures is one of the central challenges of our time. The strategic goal of THI is to consistently expand the topic of applied research in the field of sustainability. This is to take place in particular at the Neuburg campus, where the university-owned sustainability institute ForTraNN will establish itself in conjunction with inas. This new Sustainability in Research and Transfer Center was founded in 2022.
Research Institutes and Fields of Competency
With the Insitute of new Energy-Systems (InES) with over 40 scientists in the field of renewable energies, THI is already outstandingly established nationwide. The scientists at InES research the environmentally friendly and cost-effective provision of renewable energy in the form of heat, electricity and fuel, their efficient use in buildings, industrial/commercial applications and their intelligent system integration. There is close cooperation with the Institute for Applied Sustainability inas, which is recognised as an AN-institute of THI, on applied research topics, e.g. within the framework of the "Sustainable Development" cluster in the "Mensch in Bewegung" project.
