The SAFIR Impulse Project 5 "AVENUE" (Automated and Connected Electric Vehicles before, during and after an Accident) started on 15.04.2021. The project is located at the CARISSMA Institute C-ECOS under the direction of Prof. Dr. Hans-Georg Schweiger. Cooperation partner for the research focus on traffic accident reconstruction is the expert organization DEKRA Automobil GmbH. Here, the focus is on the extraction of digital traces from (electric) vehicles involved in accidents and the reconstruction of the influences of driver assistance systems (FAS) and automated driving functions (AF) on the course of traffic accidents. In cooperation with FSD Fahrzeugsystemdaten GmbH as the designated central body according to the Road Traffic Act, methods for the recurring technical inspection (main inspection according to §29 StVZO) on modern (electric) vehicles are developed. Here, the focus is on testing the correct functionality of driver assistance systems and the associated environment sensor technology.
In the area of traffic accident analysis, the influences of automation, networking and electrification of vehicles on traffic accident reconstruction will be determined. For this purpose, an accident database is to be created that contains essential accident-relevant (vehicle) data. With the help of tests on real vehicles and simulator studies, the data sets required for accident reconstruction will be generated. Based on this, a guideline will be developed on how traffic accident analysts in practice can identify the vehicle system state with respect to driver assistance systems at the time of the accident.
The use of mixed reality solutions will also be analyzed and evaluated, both in accident reconstruction and in visualization for technical laypersons, for example in court proceedings.
Practicable methods for testing automated driving functions and the necessary environmental sensors will be developed and tested for recurring technical inspections of modern (electric) vehicles.
As part of the AVENUE project, a test vehicle (electric vehicle) will be set up with which the theoretically developed content can be directly tested in practice.
