Automated driving is currently being discussed at all levels. This open access book takes up the topic from the perspective of public transport and presents the opportunities and risks of using automated shuttle buses in local transport. Using Bad Birnbach/Lower Bavaria as an example, it shows the challenges that can be expected when introducing such a service and how these can be solved. The book focuses on the communication of data collected in the field, e.g. on technical difficulties, experience reports from residents and guests, acceptance by the population, infrastructural requirements, etc. Concrete recommendations for urban planners, public transport operators/strategists or municipalities considering the introduction of automated buses complete the work.
