Depending on the choosen degree programme, the course start in the summer or winter semester. When your desired study programme starts, you will find out in the overview of all degree programmes under "Semester".

The summer semester starts on 15th of March.

The winter semester starts on the 1st of October.

If these days fall on a Saturday or Sunday, the lectures start on the following Monday.

A standard period of study is defined in the study and examination regulations for each degree programme. In principle, all study and examination achievements, including the Bachelor's or Master's thesis, should be successfully completed or passed by the end of the respective standard period of study.

For students wo were enrolled in summer semester 2020, winter semester 2020/21, summer semester 2021 or winter semester 2021/22 and were not on leave of absence, an individual extended period of study applies. The period of study that applies to you and the deadlines for your studies can be found in your online confirmations and your online grade information in PRIMUSS.

If the standard/individual period of study is exceeded by more than two semesters, the Bachelor's or Master's examination is considered failed for the first time. All examination achievements (incl. internships and Bachelor's or Master's thesis) that have not yet been completed are then considered failed for the first time and are rated 5.0.

Please note that the crediting of previous study and examination achievements as well as the crediting of the internship may affect the number of semesters you have completed. This can shorten the standard period of study!

In principle, there is no compulsory attendance for lectures. However, regular participation is strongly recommended – participation reflects on grades!

Furthermore, participation in seminars with a strong practical component is often compulsory.

It is possible to apply for credit transfer of study and examination achievements if you have already acquired the competences previously (e.g. in an earlier course of study or outside higher education). That depends on your study course. Information on this can be found in the Study and Examination Regulations with Annex (Subject-Overview) of your study course. Please also note that some courses are offered either only in the summer semester or only in the winter semester.

In full-time Bachelor's degree programmes, all examinations of the first and second semesters must be completed by the end of the third semester. If this is not done, the examination achievements not yet completed are deemed to have been taken for the first time and not passed.

Additional information for international degree-seeking students of English programmes:

The most important for all international students of English degree programmes, you will have to reach the German language level A1 until the end of the first semester.

The module handbook is the guide to all modules in the study programme. It contains information on prerequisites, contents, learning outcomes, ECTS (=European credit points), duration, work load, literature and references.

Each study programme has its own study and examination regulations (SPO). It contains all relevant information on the structure of the programme, the degree, the qualification requirements for the programme, if relevant information on an aptitude test (improvement of chances of finding a place), the conditions for advancement in the course of the programme as well as the type and number of compulsory work placements.

There is an annex to each study and examination regulations. In this document you will find the division of the semesters into study sections, the list of all modules of your study programme to be taken, the time expenditure per module per week (SWS - semester weekly hours) as well as the number of credit points (ECTS) per module passed and the thesis of your study programme. You will also find essential information on the structure of your degree programme, admission requirements for examinations, the type of examination and the type of proof of achievement per module.

If there is an important reason, you can apply for a leave of absence for the next semester until the end of the current semester (September 30 or March 14)

Important reasons for a leave of absence are:

• An illness certified by a doctor's certificate if the illness prevents proper study in the semester in question.

• Maternity protection / parental leave

• Care of a close relative

• The completion of a voluntary internship of at least 18 weeks, which is conducive to the study program

• The completion of training periods for a recognised training occupation (within the framework of a combined study programme)

• A missing  course offer of the follow-up semester required according to the progress of studies

• An extraordinary additional workload, clearly limited in terms of content and/or time by the employer and certified by the employer, which considerably impairs a proper course of study in the semester in question (applies ONLY in part-time Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes of the IAW).

Other grounds shall be accepted only if they are sufficiently well founded in the individual case. As a rule, economic grounds are not recognised.

Leave of absence is only granted for one semester and should as a rule not exceed two semesters. If necessary, a new leave of absence must be submitted.

If you are coming from another city by train, you will have to choose the Northern Railway Station. (Ingolstadt Nord). From there you have a 15 minutes walk to THI. 

If you are taking a bus, you may exit at the central bus station (ZOB).  From there, it is just a short walk to THI.

Normally, there is a bus stop: “Technische Hochschule” just next to THI, however due to the road works the bus stop is closed until approx. 2022.

The student canteenis open on workdays from 11am to 2pm. At reduced rates, students and staff can choose from three different menus, one of which is vegetarian. The cafeteria next door has opening hours from 8 o'clock in the morning to 7 o'clock in the evening. It offers small snacks and a variety of cold and hot drinks. The canteen and the cafeteria accept cashless payments only with the electronic student card.

Students and staff can eat in the Reimann´s restaurant, right next to the main entrance. It offers lunch, including a vegetarian option, between 11.a.m and 2 p.m. at a good price. In the morning and afternoon cold and warm snacks and sandwiches are on offer.  Reimanns is a popular venue for university events and student parties.
