What was your motivation to take a language course at the THI Language Center?
For two good reasons: During my bachelor's degree at the TH Nuremberg, I successfully took a basic course A1 in French. I wanted to maintain this knowledge and follow up with an advanced course. Secondly, it is my personal goal to study abroad for one or two semesters during the Master's degree. The dream is to be accepted in Paris at one of the "Grandes Ecoles". Let's see if that works. Even though I can attend English language courses, my knowledge of French helps me to get a better connection to other people.
What do you appreciate about the foreign language course you took?
Of course, it is great that the offer of the Language Center at THI is free of charge for students. In addition, we are in a familiar learning environment, i.e. the well-known lecture classes with the infrastructure such as the Reimanns, the canteen or library.
Since the courses are open to all students, the course is composed of participants from different faculties. In this way, you learn about other courses of study and make new contacts.
I experience language learning in presence and in small working groups very pleasant. The lecturer is a native speaker and creates a positive learning atmosphere.
How does the course run and how do you manage it while studying?
The course is based on the textbook. It contains lessons that cover the classical fields of language competence, i.e. vocabulary, grammar, reading and writing skills. From time to time there are exercises for listening comprehension based on video sequences or podcasts. The teacher responds very flexibly to the wishes of the students, for example, if we want to repeat or deepen certain topics. If you like, you can submit homework and have it corrected by her.
The pace is adapted to the respective language level. I have no lectures on Thursdays and no other job commitments. It starts at 8:15h in the morning, but overall it fits well into my daily routine.
What do you like about France and French culture?
France is the perfect holiday destination for me. Travelling to Paris flashes me again and again. Sitting on the stairs of Montmartre in the evening with a glass of red wine or wandering through the Latin Quarter is unique in the world.
