In September, the sixth annual conference of the EURO Working Group on Retail Operations took place in Stockholm, where THI Business School was represented by Prof. Dr. Michael Sternbeck and research assistant Moritz Hundhammer.
There, they presented their research project on logistics planning in holiday situations, which they are developing together with Prof. Dr. Heinrich Kuhn (Katholische Universität Eichstätt-Ingolstadt) and the retail company dm-drogerie markt. In their solution approach, they make holistic, optimal decisions about network-wide store deliveries, additional shifts in the logistics centers and temporary additional stock in the stores. To do this, they apply operations research methods, a special field of AI. Their solution approach ensures that the peak demand during holiday situations can be optimally managed and network-wide capacity restrictions are not violated. The solution approach developed will be used at dm from 2024.
The poster and the interesting research project impressed the organization team of the EURO Working Group, so that the research team around Moritz Hundhammer was awarded the "Best Poster Award".
