Prof. Dr. Andrea Raab, Professor of Marketing and Service Management at THI Business School, took part in this year's Healthcare Industry Congress (GWK) in Hamburg. She presented innovative solutions in the field of medical robotics in a panel discussion on the topic of “Robotics and humans: it can only work together”.

Thanks to intensive preparation together with Prof. Dr. Ali Kanso, Professor of Robotics at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, she was able to represent Ingolstadt University of Applied Sciences accordingly. Prof. Raab emphasized that the added value for the patient must be the benchmark for the definition of quality. “Good is what is evidence-based and at the same time subjectively perceived as helpful,” she explained. It also depends very much on the context: a massage robot could be a good option for one and the same person at the airport, whereas this would be out of the question as a weekly solution.

She also explained that the use of robots can relieve the burden on staff, for example in transport logistics and medication compilation. Patients, on the other hand, benefit from individually adapted robotics solutions, such as the use of therapy robots for dementia patients.

In conclusion, Prof. Raab pleaded for the courage to innovate: “We can take inspiration from other sectors and introduce innovative approaches into pilot projects in order to maximize the benefits for all stakeholders.”

In connection with the congress, Prof. Raab was delighted with the successful cross-faculty collaboration, which has resulted in further cooperation and the exchange of lectures.
