In her latest study, Prof. Dr. Tanja Sinha, Professor of Corporate Finance and Degree Program Director of the Master's degree program in Financial Management and Controlling (FMC) at THI Business School, looks at the role of female managers in financial crises, using the coronavirus crisis as an example.
In 2023, there were fewer than ten listed companies in Germany that had a majority female management team. In order to compare these companies led by women with companies led mainly by male managers, a market value-weighted index was created for the companies led by women and compared with the German DAX share index. For both indices various financial ratios were calculated. The analysis shows that the companies managed by women were able to achieve better results in times of crisis than the male-managed companies, but that this performance could not be maintained in subsequent years.
