Bressanone/Brixen and Brunico/Bruneck - in these two cities, students from the Automotive & Mobility Management master's program at THI Business School have analyzed the traffic situation in detail. Their goal: to develop a 15-minute city in which it is possible to get from any location in the city to any other location within a maximum of fifteen minutes. They presented their concepts to the Provincial Council for Mobility and Transport (Engl.: Minister of Transport) of South Tyrol. The project was supervised and initiated at THI by Prof. Dr. Harry Wagner, Professor of Automotive & Mobility Management.'
The students were divided into two groups. During a two-day on-site visit, they first analyzed the current traffic situation and asked locals and tourists about their mobility behavior. On this basis, they drew up proposals for moving closer to the concept of a 15-minute city. For example, they recommend setting up an infrastructure for e-bike sharing, call buses and shared cabs, and charging stations for e-cars. They also suggest making public transport more attractive, for example by providing free WLAN on buses. But the students also considered more creative approaches in their concept, such as building cable cars or using air cabs. All of these mobility options could be bundled in a specially developed app that would show users immediately which means they could use to get from A to B as quickly as possible. The goal of the 15-minute city would thus be achieved.
Practical projects like this are an integral part of the studies at THI Business School.
