The Sustainability Week at THI began with an emphatic opening by President Professor Walter Schober, who emphasized: ‘For a future worth living, it is essential to focus on sustainability to protect the environment and conserve resources. This is why we are training tomorrow's experts in various degree programs.’ Professor Elke Feifel, Vice President for Sustainability, Transfer, and Entrepreneurship, added to these thoughts and emphasized the importance of the topic for THI.
In her presentation, Lara Lütke Spatz from the Bavarian Centre for Higher Education and Sustainability provided a comprehensive overview of the status quo of sustainability at Bavarian universities. She spoke about both the challenges and the opportunities that arise in this area.
Another highlight of the week was the contribution by Professor Silke Bustamante from HWR Berlin, who presented her innovative teaching format ‘Engaging for Sustainability’. This concept focuses on active and collaborative learning and thus opens up new avenues in teaching.
Participants also had the opportunity to familiarise themselves with and discuss current THI research projects and student and staff initiatives at interactive exhibits.
Katharina Bär from the Institute for New Energy Systems (InES) addressed the challenges of the energy transition and emphasized THI's important contribution to combating the climate crisis. In a keynote speech, Professor Stefanie Wrobel explained the role of futurology and innovative capacity for sustainable development.
Finally, students presented their practical projects in sustainability and environmental management. Overall, the Sustainability Week at THI emphasized the central importance of the topic for the university and society and encouraged further discussions and initiatives.
